Where we are
Athy Roses is based in Gisborne which is on the East Coast of the North
Island of New Zealand.
The Maori name
for this district is Tairawhiti which means "The coast upon which the
sun shines across the water" Appropriate as we are the first city in
the world to see the sun each day. Our beaches are as famous for their
surf as for their beauty.
Gisborne is one
of New Zealand's largest grape growing regions with just over half its
2000 hectares of vineyards planted to Chardonnay.
A Mediterranean climate and suitable soils are the key factors in the
success of wine production in this region.
It is this fantastic climate that enables the roses to do so well. The
ample rainfall and cool winters allows us to fully evaluate our roses
for disease resistance and garden worthiness.
Have a little bit if New Zealand in your garden.
